Rewind 21 years – I am sitting in the living room, probably dressed in red fringe boots and a scratchy princess dress watching CMT before bedtime. My eyes were glued to the country music channel waiting for my Brooks & Dunn Boot Scootin’ Boogie music video to come on. According to my mom, I could do the Boot Scootin’ Boogie dance. I believe her.
One night, while watching each music video on the country countdown Shania Twain’s From this Moment music video started. I was in love. I told my mom I wanted this song played at my wedding. It was at that point that I began dreaming of my day. The day that the man of my dreams would get down on one knee confessing his love for me and the day that I would walk down the aisle in a white dress to proclaim our love to the world. With this song playing of course.
Fast forward all of those years and my day arrived by surprise.
It started off just like any normal Saturday would for us. We slept in late, snuggled up on the couch for some morning TV, threw on a sweatshirt and drove to the local bakery for my all-time favorite jalapeno kalaches. We counted down the minutes we had together that morning as we both had our own agenda’s for the day – or so I thought.
Joey (my fiance – oh that’s strange to say), changed his clothes, gathered his things and kissed me goodbye as he headed out for his “work event”. I picked up the house and gathered my things to meet up with my best friend, Savvy, for some much needed time at the nail salon before we attended her “neighbor’s wedding”. You see, there never was a work event or a neighbor’s wedding scheduled for this cold November day. To my surprise this day would be all about me and I was the only one who didn’t know.
I spent an entire hour and a half at the nail salon gushing about Joey and life and all those normal things girls talk about when getting their nails done. We finished at the salon and came back to my house to get ready for the so called wedding. Savvy suggested we play some wedding music to get us in the mood – I quickly agreed that was a great idea. I then joked with her about how her neighbor friend had picked THE COLDEST day of the year to have an outdoor wedding and that I was going to have to wear my fancy thrift store fur coat. Yes – I wore it. What better occasion to get some use out of a fur coat??
We took a quick selfie – naturally, like best friends do, and off we went.
As we pulled up to the beautiful Botanical Gardens I pointed out that they had some big white tents setup, confident that the wedding was probably there (those tents are always there). Savvy and I walked through the gate and she pointed across the gardens and said “I think that’s for you”. I squinted, confused and saw what looked like Joey standing under a beautiful terrace with roses all around him. Bursting into tears of joy and disbelief I made my way to him. The closer I got I could hear my song playing in the background. From this Moment. I couldn’t believe that this was it. Today was the day I had waited for my whole life.
At that point, the whole world seem to stop. It was just us – in this beautiful garden. Joey began pouring out his love as I soaked it all in. He got down on one knee and asked me to be his forever. Overcome with happiness and love, I said YES.
Since the proposal I’ve had a little extra sparkle in my eye. No really, my ring catches my eye and I can’t stop looking at it. That’s normal right?? So in love and so excited to spend forever together, we have begun wedding planning. Yay! I want to thank all of my friends and family who helped make the day possible, especially my mom. And a shout out to my cousin who captured our moment to cherish forever. And Joey, for making this day perfect and special in every way. Cheers to 11.21.2015.
