I recently ran out of one of my favorite makeup foundations and made a trip to Sephora to grab a new one. If you are anything like me, you give yourself 15 minutes or less, put on your eye blinders, try to grab exactly what you need and run out of the store as fast as possible before they take all your money. Amiright?! The struggle is SO real at Sephora. I could just buy all the pretty makeup things.
Now, my intentions were to only grab a replacement of my foundation and get out of there, but I got trapped. And the trap was that when I got into the store and looked at myself in their big beautiful well-lit makeup mirrors I noticed that my face didn’t match my neck…you guys know what I’m talking about. It’s that weird thing where….I should have bought a lighter shade of foundation for the winter, but I’m stretching out my supply for as long as possible kind of thing…yea…um kind of embarrassing and there’s no telling how long I’ve been looking like this.
So, I did what any girl would do and got an updated color match. Then I went to the shelf where my go-to foundation sits and forgot just how expensive one little bottle of that stuff was! Like whoa! And I didn’t think I was high maintenance. (Hahah!) So I backed away from the shelf slowly and talked myself out of repurchasing the same brand. Instead, I walked over to the Sephora collection where the prices were 50% less.
That day I decided to branch out and try the Sephora brand liquid foundation (see below). I surprisingly love it and the match is darn near perfect! I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks now and have noticed that it lasts throughout the day. Its a 10 hour wear perfection foundation, lightweight and comes in so many colors!
I like to use a liquid foundation with a matte powder finish, so I grabbed the corresponding powder finish foundation to go with my new color. This powder has great pigment and I love how it adds the perfect soft touch of color on my skin, soothing out fine lines. It’s also a buildable powder allowing you to add more or less depending on the coverage needed. And my favorite part, it was fairly inexpensive!
Unfortunately for me and my wallet, I didn’t stop there. I continued to browse….and I found some mascara. Mascara may be one of my biggest weaknesses when it comes to makeup. I’ve always bought drugstore brand mascaras and honestly I never stick with the same one. I just pick one that sounds good and try it. I recently grabbed a new drugstore mascara because I noticed mine was really low. This one in particular I grabbed was $3.00 so I thought – what the heck! And it was a major fail. The brush and my lashes just didn’t jive. So I found myself eyeing this one at Sephora. (someone stop me now.)
It’s called Lashcraft Big Volume. The brush is nice and plump, it definitely gives my lashes volume and length, but I’m still indifferent on the application. I don’t find that it does a great job at separating my lashes evenly when applying, but we’ve got volume people!
Lastly, this little beauty caught my eye. Now….let me just tell you a little secret. I’ve got MAJOR eye makeup envy. Like how in the world do these girls get their eyeshadow SO darn pretty and blended and all the colors in the right places?? I’ve watched YouTube tutorial after tutorial and I just don’t have the hand for it. Surely practice makes perfect right??
I’ve even got some of the prettiest eyeshadow palettes, including the Naked collections, and my eye makeup still turns out horrendous. I don’t know you guys. I’ve tried the expensive stuff (including nice brushes) and the cheap stuff…I’m just at a loss. And look where I’m at again. Buying this darn thing. I know what you are thinking….”ok Candace, go ahead and admit you have a problem.” I know – I do.
I bought it. I tried it. My eyeshadow skills are still the same. Surprise, surprise. (hahah!) Besides that….I love this palette! Mainly because it puts the right colors together for you in an easy to understand way – base, crease, upper. Easy peasy!
Can someone good at eye shadow just try on some of these and send me the proof it’s as awesome as I know it can be??
And for a bonus item – because you know you can’t leave without redeeming some of those beauty points on a tester of some sort. I decided to try out this new Lineage lip sleeping mask. My lips have been in some serious trouble lately. It seems like the more chapstick I apply, the more dry they get. So I’m trying this stuff out. I know it says it’s for nighttime, but I’ve been applying it multiple times a day hoping I can speed up the recovery of my dry lips. So far…it’s just ok.
I can’t tell a major difference just yet, but remind me and I’ll report back on it’s performance once it’s out. You can redeem your beauty points for it in-stores now, or buy the full size version.
