Let’s face it, some days we are more motivated than others to get our booties in gear. That’s just life, am I right? Motivation plays a major role in how my day will go from the very moment I wake up until I lay my head down at night. It’s not easy waking up feeling motivated each and every day…and that’s ok. I’m still looking for that secret sauce to understanding how to stay motivated for more than a few days in a row, especially when it comes to working out.
Every single day is different, but with a few simple steps we can get closer to finding our motivation sweet spot. So, here’s where I’m at. Read along with me to learn what I do in order to maintain a consistent and motivated routine.
One: Write down a plan // Your very first step to get motivated is to write out your plan on paper. Writing out your plan can help you better understand your goals and the steps to take to achieve them. This will keep you organized and never have to question what the plan is each and every day. One of the biggest obstacles in consistency is questioning what you are going to do for a workout everyday. Don’t question yourself, get it on paper for the month and stick to it. TIP: Make it easy. Look into your local studios schedules to find a variety of different activities, yoga, spin, pilates, barre, kickboxing. Knowing your local options allows you to easily schedule some workouts when its convenient for your schedule whether that’s in the morning, over your lunch break or during the evening.
Two: Share your plan // Get your friends, significant other, family, coworkers to get on this motivation train with you. When you have accountability built into your plan your probability of success is much greater. Plus, it makes those hard days easier knowing you aren’t in this alone and allows you to spend more time with your friends. Who doesn’t like that? TIP: Don’t hit snooze. Just think…it’s SO easy to just hit that snooze button and sleep in, but when you know that a friend is counting on you the motivation kicks in – you don’t want to be that friend that never shows up.
Three: Just do it & do it again // Now that you have your plan and your friends on board, get started. Keep your workouts full of variety, keeping it fresh every month to avoid feeling stale and unmotivated. Make a promise to yourself to keep those fitness goals and maintain that consistent workout. Working towards a goal is one of the best motivators out there. TIP: Download a fitness app. There are a ton of fitness apps out there to keep your workouts fresh and help remind you to keep working towards your goals. Think of it as your personal fitness trainer at your fingertips.
